What is ‘Founder Mode’ and is it right for you?

Founder Mode is when CEOs take a hands-on approach in daily operations in the mindset of someone building a new organization rather than ‘Manager Mode’, the hands-off and sometimes bureaucratic mode some CEOs can fall into.

This is a very balanced article that looks at both ‘founder’ and ‘manager’ mode that’s worth a read.

How to know what mode to deploy?

It comes down to the state of affairs of your team or organization — are we in a growth phase, evolution phase or crisis phase?

Then the founder mode kicks in — setting a pace for takeoff, steadying the plane and sticking the landing. The goal is to build, to effectively implement change and to see important initiatives through.

Perhaps, then, ‘founder mode’ is a sprint we utilize time to time rather than an approach we use all the time.

One last thought — in the end, your culture will drive your organization forward.

The end result of a burst of ‘founder mode’ must be a powerful culture that drives the organization forward with the lightest touch on the steering wheel.

Let me know your thoughts below!

What is your experience with ‘founder mode’?
